At the Greek taverna table

Why a meal is more than one main course · Original Greek Food Table editorial

A taverna meal often begins with dishes set in the centre for everyone to share. Tzatziki, olives, a seasonal salad, grilled vegetables and bread arrive alongside a conversation that moves at its own pace.

A living tradition

Souvlaki and other grilled dishes may follow, but the memorable part is frequently the rhythm of the meal: passing plates, tasting a little of everything and staying longer than planned. Customs differ across regions and families.

Bring it to your kitchen

Bring that spirit home by putting two or three small dishes on the table before the main course.
